But unlike O'Malley, the Phillies ownership waited 17 years for a new ballpark to be built with no threats to leave, even though the team was in poor financial shape. The Dodgers, on the other hand, were the most profitable franchise in baseball, even though they played in tiny Ebbets Field. The story mixes baseball, passion, architecture and politics, using original interviews, letters, unpublished family accounts and archival sources. McGee unveils never-before-told stories about fabled Brooklyn Dodger owner Charley Ebbets and architect Clarence Van Buskirk, tracing the entire history of colorful Ebbets Field from before first plans to the wrecking ball.

The Greatest Ballpark Ever: Ebbets Field and the Story of the Brooklyn Dodgers by Bob McGee

I like this--the idea of a book about a ballpark, which necessarily has lots about the team that played there and the neighborhood it was so much a part of. I liked it much better than "The Boys of Summer. Recommended for anyone who loves baseball or I like this--the idea of a book about a ballpark, which necessarily has lots about the team that played there and the neighborhood it was so much a part of. I thought the author was a little too much of the "never forgive, never forget" school That was over 50 years ago and even if the Dodgers stayed in Brooklyn, Ebbets Field would be long gone, so move on. All in all, though, a decent book John rated it it was amazing Feb 12, Ken Jacobi rated it it was amazing Sep 12, Alyssa Brown rated it liked it Apr 06, Brent Darling rated it it was amazing Nov 21,
